Illterviews - Kush D Interview

Kush D

Illterviews - Kush D

Kush D is a rapper from Brighton who is making a real impact in the game right now. We catch up with him to talk about his mixtapes, the UK rap scene and much more!

Kush D, introduce yourself; How did you get your name, how long have you been rapping?

I've been rapping for about 7 years under several different alias's but feel 'Kush D' has a ring to it and since adopting the name in 2010, it has stuck.

What projects have you put out in the past? How have they been received?

The RF mixtape was released in 2010 and caused a commotion locally and I feel, set the bar for rap/grime on the south coast. My own mixtape 'Cool Calm Kush D' was an introduction to me, and I got a really positive response from it.

You're part of the Brighton Hip Hop scene, working with RF if i'm correct? What do you think about the scene in your hometown?

The scene down here is healthy at the moment, a lot of talent both inside and outside of RF. There's a lot of competition which is good and bad at times, lots of different styles and sub genres. It's decent!

What's your opinion the UK Rap scene at the moment? There sure are a lot of rappers out there, do you think this is always a positive thing?

I feel there's room for improvement and a need for something new at the moment. There are a lot of emcee's at the moment which is why its important to be your self and individual.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Living nice. I just qualified as an electrician so if music flops I'll still be nice haha!

What other artists have you worked with in the scene?

Firstly my team, RF; Blam, Bizzy, Big L3w. In the past I've worked with Ceezlin, Double A, SYZ, Beakie Eaves, Skandle and Skobez

Who would you like to work with in the future?

Benny Banks and/or Dot Rotten, im a big fan of both and would be glad to work with either.

What are you working on at the moment, any mixtapes or EPs etc? When can we expect them to come out?

I wont say too much at the moment but there is work in the pipeline.

Any shout outs?

All the RF team, all of Brighton's music scene and anyone supporting!
